POLYETHYLENE WAX
INTRODUCTION of POLYETHYLENE WAX
One of the most frequent types of lubricants used on exterior surfaces is polyethylene wax. Polyethylene Wax, which has lubricating capabilities, is used to separate the melt from the metal, lubricate the surface between the metal and PVC, and contribute in a unique way to the product’s glossiness. These functions are accomplished thanks to the wax’s lubricating properties. The Petronaft Company offers polyethylene wax in flake, granule, and powder forms respectively. Polyethylene wax is a subset of paraffin and wax products of Petroneft Company.
Polyethylene Wax, more often referred to as PE Wax, is an ultra-low molecular weight polyethylene that is composed of chains of ethylene monomer molecules. The uses and applications for PE wax are quite diverse and extensive. PE Wax can be created both on purpose and as a byproduct of the manufacture of polyethylene. Both methods are accessible. The HDPE and LDPE versions of this material are also at your disposal.
- HDPE: High Density Polyethylene Wax
- LDPE: Low Density Polyethylene Wax
The substance known as polyethylene wax is odorless and colorless in its natural state. It is a crystallized form that is clear in appearance and has a crystalline structure. Polyethylene wax can be either low density polyethylene or high-density polyethylene wax, depending on how it’s manufactured. In general, it is possible to say that high-density polyethylene waxes are denser, and in terms of look, they are moister than the low-density kind of these items. This is something that can be stated about the appearance of these waxes as well.
Some varieties of heavy polyethylene waxes have a linear structure, and they can be made using either medium or low pressure during the manufacturing process. Polyethylene wax, which has lubricating characteristics, helps to separate the molten metal from the metal and also makes the surface between the core and the PVC smooth. It does this by separating the molten metal from the metal. On the other hand, it imparts a very attractive sheen to the product. The emulsion type of polyethylene wax and the non-emulsion type of these items are the two most common variations that are manufactured and sold for this product.
The molecular mass of each of these two varieties of polyethylene wax is where the majority of the difference lies between the two products. This mass ranges anywhere from 2000 to 4000. When compared to other forms of polyethylene, this material exhibits much lower levels of both resistance and flexibility. However, this product has a greater tolerance to chemical and sensitive environmental pressures. In general, the product has a high melting point, a high softening point, high thermal stability and resistance, strong chemical resistance, and extremely high lubrication. It also has a high chemical resistance.
WHAT IS POLYETHYLENE WAX?
Polyethylene wax is a synthetic wax manufactured from ethylene, a chemical generated from natural gas. It is extensively utilized in a variety of sectors, including plastics, coatings, adhesives, and printing inks. Polyethylene wax has a high melting point, great dispersibility, and low viscosity, making it a suitable addition to enhance the physical and chemical qualities of a broad variety of products. It increases scratch resistance, decreases friction, and improves processing and flowability. Polyethylene wax is available in a variety of grades and forms, including powder, granules, and flakes. It is non-toxic, non-reactive, and biodegradable, making it a popular option for ecologically friendly goods.
POLYETHYLENE WAX PRODUCTION
In most cases, one can make polyethylene waxes by one of the following three processes:
Direct polymerization of polyethylene is the first process that can be used in the production of these goods.
The second technique for the production of polyethylene wax is the thermal breakdown of high molecular weight polyethylene resin.
The third approach, which utilizes low polymer wax purification, results in the manufacture of polyethylene wax from the synthesis of polyethylene resin that has a high molecular weight.
It is important to keep in mind that each of these procedures results in the production of a one-of-a-kind product that has a variety of distinctive qualities. In a broad sense, polyethylene wax can be seen to function in the same capacity as a by-product of the polyethylene manufacturing process. In order to do this, ethylene gas is first dissolved in hexane, and then the polymerization process itself is carried out in a three-phase reactor alongside the catalyst.
Polymerization is a process that involves two distinct streams: the primary stream and the secondary stream. The polymer and a trace amount of solvent pass through the reactor’s output as part of the primary stream; the secondary stream is where the polyethylene wax is produced. It is also important to note that the process of severing the linear polyethylene molecular chain can be used to produce another kind of polyethylene wax. This fact has to be brought to your attention. In general, it is possible to say that the chemical makeup of polyethylene wax is rather complicated, and oil is one of the primary sources of this wax.
The ethylene (or ethene) monomer is the starting material for the production of PE, which is subsequently polymerized. The molecular structure of polyethylene is represented by the formula (C2H4) n. The addition method as well as radical polymerization are both used in the production of polyethylene chains. The Ziegler-Natta catalyst as well as the metallocene catalyst are both viable options for the synthesis process.

POLYETHYLENE WAX PROPERTIES
One of the most prevalent lubricants is polyethylene wax, which is also known as PE Wax. This substance is a kind of wax that is constructed from polyethylene. In a generic sense, the term “wax” refers to organic compounds that remain solid even when the temperature is at room temperature. On the other hand, the same substances turn into liquids when they are subjected to temperatures that are greater than those of their surroundings. When the temperature in the environment drops, this factor is also responsible for causing this material to become more compact and to gather itself. Polyethylene wax, on the other hand, will grow in volume if it is subjected to a rise in temperature.
Therefore, in a broad sense, one can say that fluctuations in temperature play a very essential part in the emergence of polyethylene wax. In point of fact, the degree to which this material can bend is proportional to the temperature of the surrounding environment. Therefore, one might say that polyethylene wax is insoluble at room temperature and in organic solvents; nevertheless, at higher temperatures, one could say that it is soluble in aliphatic and chlorinated hydrocarbons. Polyethylene wax, on the other hand, is dissolvable in the vast majority of non-polar solvents. We can include this item’s low molecular weight, its viscosity, as well as its density and melting point, among the fundamental characteristics of the product that it has.
- Hardness
- Gloss
- Dispersibility
- Emulsification
- Thermodynamic Melting Points
- Form, crystallinity, and melting point
- The requisite heat and temperature for crystallization
- Adhesion
- The ability to repel water
- Thermostability
- The Formation of a Film
- Viscosity at melting
- Reactivity, polarity
- Nonreactivity to chemicals
These properties allow PE-waxes to perform a variety of important tasks, such as:
- Inert, non-sticky films are created and employed as mold release agents as “release” or “parting.”
- Wetting and dispersing – Because pe-wax has a low viscosity, it can readily wet pigments or additives, which leads to better dispersion quality.
- Retention/rheology – to make pastes for polishes or change the rheological qualities in coating formulations.
- Surface modification – to enhance the hydrophobicity, sealing, smoothness, gloss, matting, slide, anti-blocking, scratch resistance, abrasion resistance, and mar resistance in coatings and printing inks.
- Viscosity adjustment entails reducing viscosity to aid in the processing of the finished product.
- Lubricating – by providing internal and exterior lubrication as a result of reduced friction.
